Just like Film4 Productions who created Attack The Block, the supernatural drama, marketing strategies like basic clothing and figurines.
This is just one example of the types of minimalistic marketing strategies that independent companies have to resort to to pull in an audience without becoming in debt.Submarine, a film I have talked about before, is a coming-of-age drama and had a specific quality about it which made appealed to a large variety of audiences members. The film was scored by lead vocalist of the Arctic Monkeys and solo artist Alex Turner who wrote and performed 6 original songs for the film, bringing in a wider audience consisting of Alex Turner fans, Arctic Monkey's fans, Rock music, Indie music and Alternative music fans.
The 2013 remake of Steven Spielberg's classic Carrie, although a mainstream Sony Pictures film, has one of the best marketing strategies i've seen. It is affordable as well and is interactive with the public to create a buzz for the film.
The creators of the film used actors, ropes, props and harnesses to fool the surrounding public into thinking that this actress really possessed the power of Telekinesis. Carrie's storyline features a main character who is severely bullied and then returns the favour by punishing the people who bullied her, similar to our own storyline. Carrie has the power of telekinesis hence the idea of this prank, the the use of filming it was to make a viral video which a large number of people would see, marketing the film. I think this sort of marketing isn't as possible for us but the idea behind it has inspired me to market our film in a more interesting, interactive way than just a trailer and some posters.
